And I thought domain squatting was Illegal!!

It's pretty much impossible these days to get the domain name you desire or should rightfully own!

I am the owner of calbaja, a fish and surf travel business. When I went to register "my name" calbaja.com much to my dismay it was taken, although "up for sale". Huh?? How is someone able to own a domain name they are doing nothing with, other than trying to profit from it. Well, actually and legally they are not! It's called domain squatting.

I contacted the owner Marty Maradiaga to see if he would be willing to sell me my domain name. I had offered $100 for this domain, he wrote me back and said, that he sells all of his domains through sedo (he currently owns 88 in total!) and if I was the high bidder I could have the domain. I signed up for sedo, which required my credit card for verification. I noticed the domain calbaja.com had not been viewed for several months, indicating to me that I was indeed the only person interested. I placed my bid.. an hour goes by and I get a response. I was excited and then the wind was taken out of my sales when I read Marty Maradiaga counter offered with a price of $500.. What!!! Are you joking me? I had been duped!!

Domain squatters shouldn't be allowed to sit on domains and profit from them. Take heed, don't by domains from domain squatters. I am amazed they aren't cracking down on this more...
